Dr Jurie Geldenhuys executed, Hartbeesfontein NW
Five black men claiming to be ‘from ANC-headquarters’ and ‘wanting to speak to him’ showed up at veterinarian-farmer dr Jurie Geldenhuys’ office, fired one shot at close range and killed him. Nothing was missing.
Hartbeesfontein, Klerksdorp NW – October 20 2011 - Leading Boer farmer and veterinarian Dr Jurie Geldenhuys was shot dead execution-style in his office on Friday October 20 2011, writes Rapport journalist Chris Smith on October 2 2000.
the journalist attended a meeting of about 450 Hartbeespoort and Klerksdorp farmers who were up in arms about the popular veterinarian’s murder.
They noted angrily that Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and other ANC-leaders at that time, had never issued any public calls for the farm murders to stop. “They were never placed on record as being willing to say: ‘stop the farm murders,’ said some of the people present. The meeting was also attended by Japie Grobler president of Agri-SA. Dr Geldenhuys was shot dead at close distance with a single shot through his throat. Five black men were arrested shortly thereafter: they had arrived at the veterinarian’s farm, asking to speak to him, the police reported. The same men had visited the farm before looking for him - claiming to be ‘from ANC-headquarters.’ Nothing was missing from the homestead. The five suspects were arrested shortly thereafter. They refused to reveal their names to investigating officers.
