TV-journo: 'destroy these barbarian criminals' in South Africa

relatives' ferocious murders in peaceful, rural KleinmondKLEINMOND, Western Cape. –August 15 2008 - The nine-day manhunt for the killers of an elderly Afrikaans couple of Kleinmond ended when members of the Western Cape Organised Crime Unit arrested two suspects.
- The suspects, aged 22 and 23, were lifted from their beds in a Kleinmond informal settlement between 03:00 and 04:00 on Tuesday, 12 August 2008. They turned out to be the couple's employees - and they confessed at once when they were found with the couple's Nokia cellphone and laptop computer in their shack.

The blood-spattered bodies of Schalk, 70, and Marie, 68, van der Westhuizen were found in their 9th Avenue Kleinmond home by a neighbour on 3 August 2008. The couple's two employees have confessed to stabbing the couple to death while they were all in the kitchen together, celebrating her birthday. They hacked the couple to death with knives. The workers signed their sworn statements in front of the investigation team headed by police Supt Brink. They did not provide any motives why they hacked the retired couple to death: it could not have been greed, as only a cellphone and laptop computer were taken from the house, while many other valuables inside the house were left untouched.
Schalk was the paternal grand-uncle of talented South African TV-journalist Minki van der Westhuizen, who has reacted very angrily to the mindless deaths of her beloved relatives.http://www.beeld.co.za
"We must destroy such barbarians . There's no place in South Africa for such criminals,' she told Beeld newspaper''s journalist Malani Venter. One reason she was so shocked was because Kleinmond also has always been viewed as one of the 'safest' communities for Afrikaners to live in. Yet the statistics show otherwise.
2,836 murders in Western Cape last year
On 4 July 2008 statistics released by Western Cape provincial community safety MEC Leonard Ramatlakane showed that the number of attempted murders in the Western Cape has shot up by more than 50 percent in the past seven years -- despite the ANC-regime's spindoctoring-claims from central senior police officials that 'all contact crime is on the decline'.
- In 2007 there were 2,836 murders reported in the Western Cape. Nyanga, together with Harare, Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Delft and Mfuleni police stations was on the SAPS' list of top 20 stations with the highest murder rates. Nyanga recorded the highest number of murder and attempted murders and also topped the rape list, with 264 cases reported. It was followed by Mitchell's Plains with 228.
286,220 people died in criminal violence since 1994 in SA:
The SA Police Service statistics also show that during the 14 years following apartheid between 1994 - 2008, a total of 286,220 people have died violent deaths in SA. (averaging 20,429 murdered people a year).
21,000 people died in criminal and political violence during apartheid:
- According to the SA Human Rights Commission, during the 46 years of apartheid 1948 - 94, a total of 21,000 people had died violence-related deaths (457 people a year) of whom 92% had died in 'black-on-black' inter-tribal political violence, i.e. not through any direct political action by the police.

The Afrikaans journalist, who presents the human-interest programme Pasella says 'we must stand together to destroy such barbarians.'
Minki described the double-murder of the unarmed, elderly couple as 'a cowardly act which has brought enormous grief into the family.'
They were attacked and ferociously stabbed to death on Sunday-evening in their own kitchen by people they had trusted and known for years. They were all gathered together to celebrate Mrs Van der Westhuizen's birthday. The blood-spattered cake and teacups remained behind, as silent witnesses. Besides the cellphone and the laptop, other valuables in the house were left completely untouched.
The couple had both been closely in volunteer-charity work through their local Dutch-Refored church for many years and many dwellers from the nearby township also attended their memorial service.
