Murdered Afrikaner journalist Nicohl van der Bijl was on 'sensitive story"

Nov 3 2008 - Khethiwe Mabene reports on IOL -- JOHANNESBURG, South Africa. Investigative TV programme Carte Blanche’s executive producer George Mazarakis has confirmed that Afrikaner freelance video-editor Nicohl van der Bijl, found murdered on the eve of her 27th birthday at her high-security apartment in Ferndale at the weekend, was working on a “sensitive story” for the investigative actuality programme.
He 'vehemently' dismissed speculation that Ms van der Bijl’s death was linked to her work.
She had worked as an independent on several Carte Blanche features.

“Yes, she was working on a sensitive story, but her death has no link to the story,” said Mazarakis yesterday. He would not elaborate.
Her uncle Jan Boshoff said that Ms Van der Bijl 's girlfriend on Friday had suspected something was wrong because she hadn't heard from her friendsince she'd dropped her off at the flat the day before.
The friend alerted some of Nicohl's other colleagues and they all went to the Long Island security complex to seek her out. A locksmith had to be called in, according to Mazarakis.
They found her bloodied body in a spare bedroom - hands and feet tied behind her back, her body covered in 'multiple stab wounds.'
Only her computer, DVD and cellphone are missing, said Boshoff. The friend - not knowing how to contact Ms Van der Bijl's family by phone -- left a message on her sister Quazanne's Facebook blog.
Her deeply shocked mom Minette van der Bijl then contacted Boshoff - who confirmed the journalist's murder with the police. Mazarakis said the Carte Blanche team was “devastated” to learn of the brutal murder.“It came as a great shock.”
Gauteng provincial police superintendent Lungelo Dlamini confirmed, of course, that no suspects had been arrested. Dlamini said he was not aware of the nature of Van der Bijl’s work.
