20081204 Schoolgirl, 15, of Dubai, survives shooting at God's Window overlook, Graskop

GodsWindowOverlookTeenGirlShotinjuredDec42008_DubaiTourists_ Picture of God's Window by Komatiland Eco-Tourism

Dec 4 2008 Beeld journalist Buks Viljoen reports that an 15-year-old girl whose mom works in Dubai, while her two children attend boarding school in Pietermaritzburg, was shot and injured during an armed attack by three men. Her mom, Mandy Cocco, 43, was taking pictures at the famous God's Window overlook at rural Graskop, Mpumalanga.

Ms Cocco lives and works in Dubai and was in the country to fetch her son and daughter for a Dubai holiday. Ms Cocco - her maiden-name -- does not want her daughter identified by name for fear of reprisals. The mother and daughter had stopped at the world-famous overlook to take pictures enroute to Hoedspruit to fetch the girl's brother. Three black men walked past, one grabbed her handbag, she screamed and hit him with the camera, she said. Then one of the black men pulled a gun from a plastic bag and simply shot her daughter for no apparent reason whatsoever - they had already robbed the visitors. The teen was hit in the right shoulder. The three attackers climbed into Ms Cocco's rented Mercedes-Benz and chased off. The vehicle was found abandoned in Phalaborwa several hours later. The girl underwent surgery at Nelspruit Medi-Clinic to remove the bullet. Mc Cocco said her child was very traumatised. It's presumed the family still flew to Dubai for the holiday - the report does not say.
Police capt. Malcolm Mokomene confirmed the attack and said no-one has been arrested.

Rural Rhuslancea lodge in Hennops River attacked, owner, guard critical

Oct 21 2008 - Luxury lodge owner Riaan Malenze and guard suffered critical wounds in armed attack at rural Rhuslancea Lodge, Hennops River Valley, Gauteng

Oct 21 2008 -- The owner of a luxury Hennops River lodge, Riaan Malenze, 35 and its security guard Joseph Antionio, are fighting for their lives in hospital after armed attackers dug as tunnel beneath the electrified fence, invaded the lodge and tied up the owner, the guard and the owner's wife on Saturday.

  • The two unarmed men were shot -- and then also stabbed in the stomachs as they fell down. By Tuesday, both men still were reported in critical condition.

Particularly nasty crime...police:

The attack - described as a 'particularly nasty crime' by police - took place at the four-star luxury Rhuslancea Lodge in Hennops River Valley area, northern Gauteng during the early hours of Saturday morning, is part of a wave of violent crimes gripping the area. The gang struck just after 1am when they dug a hole under an electric perimeter fence and overpowered a security guard. After tying up the guard, several of the robbers stood watch over him while their accomplices made their way to the lodge's main house where they forced their way inside through a back door.

Sexually taunted, shot, then stabbed...

Once inside, the gunmen overpowered the owners Riaan Malenze, 35, and his wife, Tertia, and tied them up before ransacking the house and forcing open a safe, which is believed to have contained firearms, jewellery and cash.

  • The black gunmen then taunted the couple - threatening to sexually assault them both -- before they opened fire on the unarmed Mr Malenze, shooting him in the stomach. It is not known how many times Malenze was shot.

As the gunmen who shot Malenze fled, their accomplices, who were keeping watch over the guard, also stabbed him repeatedly before escaping. Malenze was rushed to Unitas Hospital by his wife, while the guard was taken to Kalafong Hospital. Both are in a critical condition.

They shot them just for the fun of it....

Erasmia police station commissioner Superintendent Faan Steynberg confirmed that the farm attackers had gained access to the property by digging a hole under the perimeter fence which is electrified. "They knew exactly what they were doing. Some went straight to the owner while the others overpowered the guard. This is a particularly nasty crime. It appears as though the owner and the guard were deliberately shot. "It looks as though they shot them for the fun of it," said Steynberg, adding that a task team was in the process of tracking down the gunmen.

LOTS MORE VIOLENT ROBBERIES IN AREA:

Sharon Bernhardt, who runs a community assistance programme in the Hennops River Valley, said crime in the area was increasing. "We have a lot of robberies, especially violent ones," she said.

Chris and Rachelle Lubbe: attacked, tortured with hot iron: left for Australia...2 weeks later...

There were the attacks on Chris and Rachelle Lubbe who were attacked and tortured with a hot iron after being tied up and assaulted earlier this year.Rachelle was burnt on her left breast, shoulder and buttocks while Chris was burnt repeatedly on his back. The couple and their family left for Australia two weeks after the attack, said Bernhardt.Bernhardt, herself a victim of three robberies, said crime was happening more often. "The attacks happen on such a regular basis that residents are becoming used to them," she said.

Sayer family also attacked:

Agreeing, Claire Sayer, owner of Fossils Family Kitchen and Pub, said people were attacked every month.

  • "It is definitely getting worse, especially the violent attacks," she said, adding that her family had also fallen victim to armed robbers...

Captain Tessa Jansen said the gunmen at the lodge gained access to the house by forcing their way through a back door before they made their way to the couple's bedroom where they overpowered and tied them up. "The robbers ransacked the house and then shot the owner before they fled with their loot," she said.Kate Chvitanic, Unitas Hospital spokeswoman, confirmed Malenze was in a critical condition in the hospital. amily spokesman Johan Snyman, declined to comment. Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the attackers can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

"4m SA 'TOURISTS CLAIMS ANC-REGIME' --

MOST ARE STARVING REFUGEES FROM THE REST OF AFRICA...

Oct 17 2008 - The glowing SA propaganda reports keep claiming that some 4-million 'foreign visitors' entered SA last year - however 79% of all these 'tourists' were hungry, scared African refugees who walked into the country on temporary visitors' visas.... the SA authorities assured us that the WC2010 football tourists 'will be safe', trotting out two brand-new helicopters to reassure the worriers. And FIFA is bringing 3,500 journalists on lavish media-junkets to 'see South Africa for themselves.' http://www.thetimes.co.za/News/Article.aspx?id=855400

While those 3,500 journalists will be confined to their carefully laid-out, highly-supervised and patrolled 'Putemkin-village" environments, the country's 110,000 police officers are increasingly unable to control the world's most violent crime epidemic . Undoubtedly the foreign news media won't be given access to these on-the-beat cops to find out exactly how they hope to protect all those hundreds-of-thousands of football tourists when they can't even protect the SA population from the country's ' routine crimes...'

TELL FIFA WC2010 WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE: http://www.fifa2010.us/fifa-2010-fifa-world-cup/fifa-cape-town-world-cup-2010/

The first crime-hurdle: arrival SA's international airports:

HippoLodge_LooksSoPeaceful_ButWasRobbedByHugeGangSept2008These fans should be forewarned that, besides massive looting from their luggage, they also will be targetted by very violent, heavily-armed gangs which are moreover, armed with advance'insider information' about all their holiday-plans.... and proceed to track them down at their holiday resorts. In September 2008 for instance, a group of British tourists was terrorised and two UK visitors also raped during an attack by a six-man armed gang at the Hippo Lodge, Honeydew - by gangs which had followed them from the airport. The heavily-armed black men had somehow managed to get past the lodge's electrified fence and electronic security systems. Its traumatised owner Geof Maud, pictured on the left, said the attackers tied up the UK visitors with electric wire and terrorised them while looting the defenceless guests - and then one man raped two of the women. They robbed the guests of all their valuables and cellphones. The men then fled in a lodge car - which they only used for a getaway because it was found abandoned at Diepsloot, the infamous squatter settlement. Frans Richter, owner of the nearby Heia safari ranch, also was murdered in November last year. http://www.default.aspxtelegraaf.nl/telesport/voetbal/1990973/__Luipaard_Zakumi_mascotte_WK__.html

...and this happens to many other visitors and South Africans alike, day in, day out... SEE CRIME STATS...

ONE Johannesburg airport gang jailed -

BelgianMurderReportFrontPageSept92008 In Sept 2008 the SA Police proudly announced that they had managed to send one member of an 8-member armed gang to prison for 15 years... but this happens in only 6% of the time... most criminals are never caught. On Sept 28, Dominic Sebanda, 34, one member of an armed 8-member gang which was targetting hapless foreign travellers from Johannesburg airport, was sent to prison for 15 years by the Wynberg regional court. And the rest of this gang is also sitting in jail awaiting trial for robbing foreign travellers and killing one, Angolan traveller Edward Olisah (37). There are however still many gangs out there which follow foreign travellers to their destination, where they are robbed of all their valuables, often raped and even killed, many embassies are warning... Still awaiting trial are a group of much younger men who made up the rest of this criminal youth-gang: Thomsana Mkhize, Dumisani Moyo, Thabo Thomson Mamadi, Sibusiso Vincent Mkhize, Nthabiseng Shakes Sibula, Benson Khalushi amd Thuso Joseph Mafela. http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2398612,00.html

TOURISTS WARNED TO STAY AWAY FROM CRADLE OF HUMANKIND - IT'S JUST TOO DANGEROUS...

CradleMankindBusinessPeopleWarnTouristsDec2007And near the Cradle of Humankind tourist centre local residents even got together and publicly demonstrated with placards warning tourists to stay away after the murder of local Heia safari park lodge owner Frans Richter. These protestors also demanded a return of the death penalty . Police from the region's seven local police stations - all badly understaffed -- regularly have to form impromptu commandos to try and track these ruthless attackers down.

Forty families a day attacked inside their homes in SA by armed gangs:

Every day, some 40 South African families are attacked inside their homes by such heavily armed, relentless gangs. During such attacks, entire families are terrorised, often even the youngest female members are raped, and the male homeowners often gunned down without any compunction. They also target the tourist industry with the same relentless ferocity and any policeman who gets in their way with their useless 9mm handguns, just gets gunned down by these gangs' weapons of choice: Chinese-made AK47s and South African made Uzi semi-automatic machine guns...

Wife, son of SA's World Cup 2010 roving ambassador Mark Fish robbed at gunpoint:

IIn August in Pretoria, Loui, the stunning wife of ex-footballer Mark Fish-- the roving football ambassador for the World Cup 2010 tournaments -- was robbed at gunpoint at their high-security luxury estate Mooikloof in Pretoria. The 500-home, protected estate for the superrich prides itself on its high-security system. Yet Mrs Loui Fish was held up and robbed at gunpoint inside her home together with son Luke and her assistant Dean Machison. Somehow the attackers got through this security cordon.. http://www.news24.com/Rapport/Nuus/0,,752-795_2400806,00.html http://www.news24.com/Rapport/Nuus/0,,752-795_2400806,00.html
  • Key to this story: the extremely expensive measures needed to be taken by ordinary South Africans just to protect their families from harm every day... South Africa now suffers from such violent armed attackers countrywide, in every region -- even small retirement-coastal towns which in the past were always presumed safe such as Kleinmond, now suffer from the scourge of heavily-armed feral youth-gangs which invade people's homes at will.
KurtHuppel_German_murderedLionParkSept2008 Krugersdorp Lion Park murder: Recently German visitor Kurt Huppel, left, also was shot dead in cold blood in front of his girl friend and her child - right amongst a 100-strong crowd of visiting families with many small children at the hugely popular Lion Park restaurant in the Krugersdorp region in Gauteng, during a massive armed robbery by gang which pitched up in a fleet of luxury-cars. They were armed with Uzis machineguns and brand-new Chinese-made AK47s.

Top SA wine farmer in court Dec 5 on assault claim

Print Friendly and PDF

RawsonvilleExcelsiorFarmEntrance_JulianJansenNov2008

According to farm worker Manie Thomas, the owner of this prestigious, internationally famous wine estate in Rawsonville ordered six employees to tie up and beat the worker after accusations that he'd stolen wine from the estate cellar. This according to the court docket, Nr RV699/08, occurred on October 6. Two weeks later, the worker lodged formal charges and the men were arrested on Oct 20 and charged.

These accusations could have horrendous repercussions for all the workers on this estate, which if found guilty, would undoubtedly face an international boycot campaign - launched by the South African land-rights campaigners, the internationally-funded Women on Farms project. However, this is not the first time that serious charges were lodged against white Rawsonville farmers -- and thrown out of court after it was found that all the 'testimony' had been wholly fabricated with the aid of torture by a local police officer.

So exactly what is going on in Rawsonville ?

RawsonvilleFarmMurderPostponedToDec52008  This week on Rawsonville_Thomas_worker_buttocksBeatingFarmerNov2008December 5, Afrikaner farmer Hennie du Preez of the wine estate Excelsior will appear in the Rawsonville regional court with six employees. All were arrested on October 20 for assaulting farm worker Manie Thomas, 23, left. This assault case, Nr RV699/08 involves injuries sustained to the worker (picture buttocks). Other charges include  pointing a firearm and kidnapping.  The alleged beating occurred on October 6. It's not known why it took the farm worker two weeks before lodging the complaint. The truth will all hopefully emerge during the trial. Pictures: Julian Jansen, Rapport newspaper, SA.
Also see previous report: http://censorbugbear-reports.blogspot.com/2008/11/rawsonville-farmers-in-news-again-but.html

Someone is behind these stories...' farmer Du Preez:

JJrawsonville07  Du Preez has vehemently denied the claim by Thomas, saying: 'someone is behind these stories. Once the dust has settled, I will talk about it.' The accused men's legal counsel Japie Louw (tel. Somerset-Wes: 082 800 2429) told Rapport: "It's not the first time that false complaints were lodged against Rawsonville farmers. The truth will come out during the trial. ' The provincial spokesman for the department of agriculture, Alie van Jaarsveld, was not willing to comment on this latest allegation before they had received formal reports about the alleged beating from Agri-West Cape and the Farmworkers' Development Programme before commenting.

So... IS 'anyone behind these stories'?

Scannen0004

This news release, reproduced here, was issued by the Women on Farms Project on 3 November 2008 and widely distributed to all the news media, including overseas journalists. These contents show that the WOFP have clearly already prejudged Du Preez as guilty and are influencing the entire community to prejudge this farmer guilty --  even though he hadn't at that point, appeared in any court of law nor even had any chance to plead in his own defence.
Under SA law, suspects don't have to prove their innocence: they are deemed to be innocent until the State has produced sufficient evidence to the contrary.

It's not certain how this farmer and his co-arrestees could get a fair trial with such public statements being circulated - even if there was a beating involved, with emotions being whipped up against them in the community where this trial is being held.    However in my experience of reporting in South Africa, I have learned that it is very prudent never to prejudge the outcome of any trials - because some very surprising facts often emerge which would prove such accusations to be totally false and the accused found not guilty...

Four Rawsonville wine farmers demonised -  plot against 4 arrested farmers revealed

In Rawsonville, a very worrying proven record of a deliberate demonisation campaign against local white farmers already exists -- dating from April 2006, and also originating from the same Women on Farms project (see their campaigners pictured in this page). In this previous incident, a Ceres police detective, Matthew Ntshanga,  was arrested with accusations that he had intervened in the course of justice by allegedly torturing Beverley van Rooyen, a female farm worker with an electric cattle prong -- in an atrocious effort to force a statement from her to support claims by co-worker Annelise Davids that she had been raped by four local white farmers.

The four white farmers were arrested in a blaze of international media attention, accused of gang-raping the female farm worker and also of beating a youth into a coma. Women on Farms project campaigners demonstrated outside the department of labour, demanding that all the farmers be 'locked up.'

  • RawsonvilleFarmersDemonisationCampaignByLandRightsCampaignersNov2008These charges all came from one source, namely Davids - and she confessed after the arrests and all the outraged publicity that she had lied --  'because she'd been drunk'. She admitted that her friend Beverley van Rooyen was then forced - with torture by a cattle prong -- to write a statement claiming she had seen the rapes. The two women pointed out Ceres police inspector, Matthew Ntshanga as the alleged torturer. He has since been charged with interfering in the judicial process. He still keeps his job while his case is pending. Nobody knows who is lying about what in this case. Davids said she also lied to the police about these same four farmers having beaten a local youth, Anthony Ntonzeni, leaving him in a coma.  This youth was indeed in a coma and permanently brain-damaged, however his family told the police directorate investigators  that this youngster had fallen off a vehicle and that these arrested farmers had not been anywhere near the scene at the time.

MASSIVE HATE-SPEECH CAMPAIGN

The two female farm workers were never charged with anything -- and have never apologised to the four white farming families, either. A huge amount of hate-speech was generated in South Africa and abroad against these four accused white farmers - and in fact the land-rights campaigners still cite this case to this day at their public meetings and protests as 'an example of the cruelty which racist white farmers show towards their workers'...when none of these events had ever happened..

Four white farm families went through hell...got death threats:

Women on Farms protest march Aug 16 2008Meanwhile the four white farm families have been through hell. "Nobody involved in this case has ever apologised to the families. The least which Davids could have done, was to apologise on a public platform about the harm which was done to our families,' one of the farmers told Rapport.

Tony Ehrenreich, West Cape leader of Cosatu, said during the local protest campaigns about the case that it is time that "we...declare war. We are against violence but if that's what it takes to get bad farmers to go into the right direction, we will 'moer' them. (Beat them up). If farmers continue like mad dogs to infringe on the human rights of our farm workers, we must beat them, even if it is a last resort. They will shit if they don't stop. There's already a lot of blood drawn among our farm workers. If this does not stop, there will also be blood on the farmers'.

Land-rights protest march against white Van der Merwe farm family Aug 9 2008, Rawsonville

And things keep on stirring in Rawsonville - which is in a fertile agricultural region in the greater Grabouw region, producing huge quantities of grapes, fruit and fresh produce for the Cape Town commercial markets.

  • These farms also face land-rights claims by local communities. The Women on Farms Project  -- funded by the Ford Foundation, Sida, the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the Open Society Foundation --  held a dramatic protest march on Saturday, August 9 2008 in Rawsonville, protesting 'against the lack of access to land for women', and stating that they 'are claiming back the land that was stolen from our mothers and fathers." They gathered at the Rawsonville police station and marched to the nearby Merwiede Farm, claiming: "On the six farms owned by the van der Merwes assaults on farm workers are common-place. One woman cooperative member has been assaulted twice by a foreman and no action was taken..." http://lists.mindspring.co.za/pipermail/pgmwc/2008-August/000020.html

When did Women on Farms become a legal court of law?

Under these circumstances, it would be wise to let the courts decide the guilt or innocence of the farmers in Rawsonville --  rather than leave it to the Women on Farms organisers --  in this case deputy director Colette Solomon, Women on Farms Project (WFP), PO Box 530 Stellenbosch 7599 South Africa , 32 Four Oaks, c/o Bird & Molteno Streets, Stellenbosch, South Africa

ANC-leaders encourage anti-white hatespeech, violence against Afrikaners '

Groblersdal - In April, some 200 peaceful but very grim-faced ratepayers -- mostly farmers -- of the agricultural town of Groblersdal walked to the local police station to ask for an official investigation into the role being played by such leading ANC-politicians in fuelling the farm-murders whenever they spout hate-speech against Afrikaner farmers. Their complaint was lodged at the -- heavily guarded - Groblersdal police station after the murder of Johan Myburgh, 33, shot dead from the outside while watching TV on his parent's farm on April 19.

    • Kallie Kriel, chief executive of AfriForum civil rights organisation, said "those who inflame hate and aggression towards farmers have to be regarded as accomplices to the murders of farmers."

Kriel -- who signed the memorandum to investigate the hate-speech patterns of ANC-leaders -- said 'theft could not be used as a motive for farm murders, as it was not necessary to torture and murder people when robbing them.' Kriel urged police to launch a comprehensive investigation into the role played by hate speech by politicians against farmers. He specifically accused Agriculture Minister Lulu Xingwana and her deputy, Dirk du Toit, of being an active party to inciting hatred against farmers.

        • "The minister, for example, made herself guilty of hate speech on December 5 2006 during a gathering at Church Square, Pretoria, by falsely alleging that 'the agricultural industry was riddled with cases of violence against women and children and that farmers raped and assaulted farm workers," he said.  He said Du Toit even went so far as to accuse farmers of committing 'ethnic genocide'...

All the whites are blamed for Skielik Squatter camp murders:

And during the ANC's formal protest action at the first court appearance of 18-year-old Skielik squatter camp murderer Johan Nel, 18, who has now been jailed for the rest of his life, ANC MP Patrick Chauke publicly blamed the entire white community for these murders and protestors yelled slogans such as "Kill the Boer, kill the farmer..."

            • Now, with millions of poor people now having to spend up to 80% of their meagre incomes on food and food-looting rife, the ANC-elite are clearly trying to blame the handful of remaining commercial farmers for the country's approaching famine.

Yet it's the ANC-regime itself which has been illegally grabbing fertile, very productive farm-land, and at such a fast rate that less than one percent of the entire country's surface now is still being used for large-scale irrigated commercial food-cropping...

                • Small wonder the country is running out of enough locally-produced food to feed its population of 47-million ( plus those 5-million hunger-refugees from the rest of Africa...) and ANC leaders are now urging residents to 'tear up their lawns and plant vegetables'...

Mbeki's silence about hate-speech against white farmers was 'disturbing'

Earlier in the year, then-president Thabo Mbeki's silence about the untrue and exaggerated statements against farmers spouted by Agriculture Minister Lulu Xingwana also came under fire, described as "telling and disturbing," by the African Christian Democratic Partyin parliament. "It (Mbeki's silence) creates the impression that Xingwana is speaking with the consent of Mr Mbeki; that they are working in unison to act out African National Congress strategy," ACDP agriculture spokesman Francois van Wyk said.

In the meantime, he said, South Africa was reeling under the effects of the brutal killings (of more than 3,017 farmers, farm workers and their family members) - all hard-working people who had added enormous value to the country after 1994.'

                    • Xingwana's recent exaggerated statements "amount to cheap politics, at the risk of endangering the lives of farm owners and their workers." http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,9294,2-7-1442_2062965,00.html

                        'This is genocide'

Nov 21 2008 - Kameeldrift smallholdings residents around greater Pretoria have called for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to investigate the spate of violent crimes in their area and nearby Cullinan. Fourty-nine smallholdings have already been killed there thus far in hundreds of armed attacks targetting the Afrikaans working-class families on these subsistence-smallholdings. They say the police does nothing to help them. The residents on Tuesday handed over yet another of its many memorandi to the South African Police Service.

Our basic human rights are violated:

Kameeldrift Community Policing Forum (CPF) spokesman Warren Williams said the petition was in response to their basic human rights being violated."As a community, we have marched and shouted about crime. But this has amounted to nothing. We are still being maimed, raped, and shot at on a daily basis.

One murder in Laudium and security MEC visits - 49 Kameeldrift murders and nobody shows up...

"We demand that the NIA investigate if a third force is to blame for the crime in our area. We will also take the matter to the United Nations as we believe that the situation qualifies as genocide," said Williams.

He said the Gauteng MEC for safety and security Firoz Cachalia visited (the Indian suburb) Laudium after one murder occurred there."But 49 people are murdered in the Kameeldrift and the Cullinan area and no one helps us," he said.

The residents held a meeting in the area attended by the provincial head of crime prevention in Gauteng, Director Mac McLachlan. He said he had been robbed three times at his own house too: "I am fully aware that there is a big crime problem in Kameeldrift and in Cullinan. I am not here to make promises or to defend the police. But I will not allow that my fellow SAPS members get a lashing at this meeting. "The minister of safety and security was here to speak with you earlier this month. You come here today with a list of demands, but I am not a politician."I am a policeman. I've been robbed three times in my house. So let us talk and find a solution," McLachlan said.

In the petition the residents demand the following: That crime intelligence be improved to such an extent that violent crime be prevented significantly; That more police members are deployed to prevent crime from occurring; That reported crimes be investigated and that the percentage of successful prosecutions increases noticeably; and, That policing is executed efficiently and that personnel and means are utilised optimally to curb crime significantly.

Community member Piet Germishuys said he did not sleep at night. "Our women are raped. The men are shot dead. In the past, the army was sent in to deal with a situation like this. "We don't know what the police are doing," he said. Cullinan resident, Abel van Aarde, said there were far too few police while so many migrants were also invading the area. http://feedblitz.com/r.asp?l=37386542&f=84250&u=13335971

March 6 2008 - London protests: S.Africans demand voting rights

One-million South Africans abroad have been stripped of their constitutional rights to vote...

SA_RightToVote_MarchDec62008 London UK - On December 6, South African workers in London plan to hold a protest march against the fact that they have been stripped of their voting rights.

The marchers start assembling from about 12 noon at the Temple Underground Station, on the Circle & District lines, London UK.telephone contact: 4402087853116 E-mail: info@sayfa.org.za

More than a million South Africans are working and living abroad, and they want to  vote in the forthcoming presidential elections - but can't, only because of bureaucratic incompetence.  The London-based spokesman for the  SA Youth Forum Abroad said: "We are not allowed to vote in the South African general elections unless we go back home to register and then return again to cast our vote.'

The rights of SA minorities as entrenched in the Constitution - video:

The SA Centre for Constitutional Rights, which was recently launched by the F W de Klerk foundation,  has also been encouraged by this week's comment from the country's independent electorial commission head Brigalia Bam that she would 'examine' the disenfranchisements of the estimated 1-million or so South African who have to work abroad.

Dr Bam of the IEC informed the opposition Democratic Alliance's leader Helen Zille this week that she would 'positively examine' all the requests and petitions that South Africans living overseas be allowed to vote in next year’s general elections.  http://constitutionallyspeaking.co.za/?p=727

The South African citizens abroad weren't able to vote in the previous presidential elections either, but special polling stations had been set up for them during the country's very first democratic elections, when Nelson Mandela was elected. With the new presidentials now looming ever-closer, and the country plunged in a worsening political crisis due to the deep divisions inside the ruling party leadership, South Africans abroad are increasingly disgruntled about this inequal treatment. They point out that the hundreds of thousands of convicted criminals in the country's prisons are given special access to polling stations  -- yet law-abiding citizens like themselves, many of whom also send support money to the folks back home, are being denied all access to the polling stations abroad: these will only process the votes of foreign affairs officials and their relatives stationed at SA's foreign embassies.

"We have been stripped of our right to vote. The actions of the South African government and Independent Electoral Commission to withhold all the voting rights of SA citizens abroad by not setting up voting stations conflicts with the Electoral Act of 1998,' said a SA Youth Forum Abroad spokesman.
