Police Report October 10 2009

3,000 mourners weep openly at funeral of slain policeman Capt Charl Scheepers

Scheepers policeman murder affects Zuma, minister Nathi Mthethwa Oct102009

October 10 2009 – In a hard-hitting statement, a visibly angry national police Minister Nathi Mthethwa vowed to the family, friends and colleagues of murdered Afrikaner policeman Captain Charl Scheepers, that “nothing would stop the police from catching cop killers,’ reports the Pretoria News.

"We will never stop. We will never rest. All that these killings will do is to strengthen our resolve to catch those behind these heinous crimes," said Mthethwa at the emotionally charged funeral attended by nearly 3,000 mourners.

Scheepers, who was given a full military funeral, was stationed at Brooklyn police station's crime prevention unit where he worked as an operations commander. Mthethwa was speaking at the graveside of Scheepers, 39, who was gunned down last Saturday night while trying to apprehend a suspected robber at a construction site opposite Glenfair shopping centre.

'No more will we put up with this'

Accused of the crime is Bennet Takalani Mnguni, 39, who is a security guard, who allegedly had shot Scheepers twice in the stomach after the officer demanded that he surrender. He has already appeared in court but has not pleaded and no charges have been put to him yet.

Mthethwa, who had the unenviable task of handing Scheepers's widow, Anna-Marie, the South African flag and his police hat, was speaking to the thousands of emotional and teary-eyed mourners who had gathered at the Hatfield Christian Church and Pretoria East cemetery to pay their final respects to the murdered police officer.

"No more will we put up with this. Captain Scheepers's death is the very example of what we want to stop happening to our brave police officers and women. "Scheepers and the loss of our other men and women in blue is a loss not only to their families, but to the whole of South Africa. "We as South Africa have been robbed by this killing," he said, as mourners, many of whom clung to each other for support, fought back tears.

As the Last Post was sounded, Constable Moipone Babedi, who was with Scheepers when he was shot and killed, collapsed as she was overcome with emotion while she stood in the guard of honour, which was formed at the foot of Scheepers's grave.

Son: My father was a legend…

Scheepers Jean Jacques dad Capt Charl shot dead Oct 3 2009 Beeld Theana Calitz Addressing mourners at the packed church shortly before his father's casket - draped with the South African flag - was carried out by a police guard of honour and taken to the cemetery, Scheepers's eldest son, Jean-Jacques, 18, pictured right – who thanked his father for his love and support.

"You were always there for me dad. You were a legend and you influenced so many lives. The number of people here to say goodbye to you today shows how many lives you touched.

"You are my legend, dad, and I will always miss you," he said, as he was comforted by Mthethwa while fighting back his tears. Director Andre Wiese, Brooklyn police station commander, said Scheepers was a police officer to the "marrow of his bones".

"He was trustworthy, loyal and dedicated to serving and protecting the lives of all South Africans and was always willing to go the extra mile," he said.

Addressing Scheepers's family as business leaders, community member and hundreds of police officers, dressed in their uniform, openly wept, Wiese said nothing could stop Scheepers from doing his job.

  • "Your father and husband was one of the best crime fighters that I have ever met who always treated people with respect. We are not here to mourn, but rather here to celebrate a beautiful life which has been taken away so tragically. "We salute a fine policeman who left us a great legacy to always remember," he said.

Summing Scheepers up, Rev Norman Mazibuko, said Scheepers was committed in both life and death to serving and protecting all South Africans. "The word service was his number one priority. He was married to the police service and served South Africa with all his heart, mind and might and was dedicated to creating a country free from crime."

Mazibuko, speaking before the national anthem rang out, said that if Scheepers's death and the death of other police members did not unite the country in the fight against crime, nothing would.

  • "Now is the time that we have to stand up in the fight against crime. It is now before it is too late," he said.

Online newspaper’s editor gets petrol-bomb threat:

An unlit petrol bomb has been thrown into the home of the editor of an online newspaper devoted to reporting on political matters in Oudtshoorn and the Eden District municipality. "You have been warned. Now you must bear the consequences. Just so you know, this is only the beginning," read a note, in Afrikaans, left outside his front door.

Drewan Baird is a journalist and editor of Oudtshoorn Online, a popular cyber journal known for its no-holds-barred reporting and commentary on local issues and public representatives. Its motto is: "We stir... Only the informed are free." Baird said he and an associate were meeting in the study of his home when he heard a noise at around 9pm. They took little notice, however, thinking the family's cat had knocked something over. But when his daughter, who had already gone to bed, called to say that there was something lying on the living room floor, he rushed to the adjacent room, where she handed him a bottle filled with a pinkish liquid.

Baird said he identified the liquid as fuel and rushed outside, where he found an envelope on the porch containing the printed warning note. He told the Cape Argus he suspected "that an aggrieved party or parties might be responsible for the attack". "There seems little doubt, if any, that the attack is in answer to certain recent exclusive exposures and continued criticism," Baird said. "Yet I personally find it incredible that my journalism can be met with such a loathsome act as petrol-bombing."Police spokesman Louis Visser confirmed the incident, and said that the possibility that it was an aggrieved party was "definitely" being probed. "But he writes so many things about so many people, we don't know where to start looking," Visser said.

  • Visser said because the bomb had not been lit, the only criminal docket that could be opened was one of malicious damage to property. Oudtshoorn municipal manager Wessel Rabbets said he could not comment before the facts of the matter were communicated through official police channels. Eden spokesman Kelvin Vollenhoven said he could not comment as it was a political matter. Asked whether the attack had warned him off, Baird replied: "I will continue, but personal pressure to desist is strong."

Youth Forum Abroad invites Afrikaners

Print Friendly and PDF

SA Youth Forum Abroad, SAYFA, keen to also have Afrikaners join up:

ExpatSouthAfricansMarchingForVotingRights_SAYCO October 10 2009. LONDON, UK. The SA Youth Forum Abroad, which arranged several protest marches last year, demanding the vote for South Africans abroad, is keen to 'invite Afrikaners on board', its spokesman told a delegate at its annual general meeting at a London hotel last week.http://sayfa.org.uk/

Picture: SAYFA mounted successful campaigns which brought a large variety of SA expats together, united in one common goal: namely to obtain voting rights at SA legations abroad.

At their AGM, SAYFA ‘s press officer, identified as Ndoda Nathanel Masinga, said in reply to questions by a delegate – a research student -- that they wanted to 'embrace the Afrikaners and share in each other's cultural backgrounds'. The delegate was asking specific questions in relationship to recent statements, made among others by ANC Youth League president Julius Malema, details below, which compared Afrikaners to 'colonials' who did not belong in South Africa. Afrikaner expats are growing increasingly concerned about the safety of their kin back home when they read reports of such hurtful statements.

Mr Masinga said in response to the delegate’s inquiry on this specific subject, that while 'we all need to cherish and should not forget our very brutal past, but we certainly don't denounce Afrikaners, on the contrary we want to embrace them'.

  • “Our job is to create a better future”:
  • He also said such comments as heard from certain SA leaders that "Afrikaners are just colonials who don't belong in Africa' should not even be considered: noting: "We all need to cherish our past, and the many wrongs which have been done. However, it's just that - the past. Our job is to create a better future.’

Couldn’t elect a new Executive… looking for young passionate South Africans to join us…

They also announced on their Facebook page that 'a new SAYFA Executive was not elected at the recent SAYFA AGM due to a lack of nominees... “which means we're still looking for young, passionate South Africans to join us. If you're interested please email info@sayfa.org.uk. "

On October 13 2009, we also received the following follow-up response from Francine Higham, SAYFA IT & Media Office info@sayfa.org.uk – who wrote that they of course invite all South Africans, that ‘would like to stress that SAYFA not only welcomes Afrikaners, but ALL South Africans. We are a non-partisan and > non-discriminatory organisation,’ writing:

Thank you for getting in touch with SAYFA. I noticed that you posted a link to the article you wrote about SAYFA on our Facebook Page. Although we appreciate the exposure we do feel that we have been quoted out of context  - the journalist who interviewed Ndoda identified herself as a student doing a research project on South African's living abroad, and not as a journalist. We would like to stress that SAYFA not only welcomes Afrikaners, but ALL South Africans. We are a non-partisan and non-discriminatory organisation, and would appreciate it if you could reflect that in your article. Also, the name of the SAYFA Executive Committee member that was interviewed is Ndoda Nathanel Masinga and he is the Press Officer for SAYFA. We would also greatly appreciate it if you could remove the picture associated with the article.”

However, following is the background against which these specific questions were asked from the SA Youth Forum Abroad:

  • Julius Malema, ANC Youth League president: “I will beat the children of the children of colonials…’

An Afrikaans journalist at the Afrikaans Sunday paper Rapport recently was rudely insulted, and wrote about the threats uttered by ANC Youth Leader Julius Malema, quoting him as follows: "Let me tell you my friend, I have won you and your apartheid regime and I will beat you again, for once and for all…’ He issued this recorded rant over the telephone to Rapport ‘s Afrikaans journalist Julian Rademayer - who had contacted Malema in Washington, DC in the USA where the youth leader was on a junket with the SA deputy police-commissioner.  Rapport wanted to talk about an arrest warrant issued over Malema’s apparently unpaid speed fines with his luxury Mercedes Benz C350 in 21 Sept 2008.

Other statements:

‘ Before they leave the country, whites must first transfer their skills… ’

ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema faces racism charge Equality Court JoburgSept212009Other deeply hurtful comments uttered against the white Afrikaner farming community on October 10 – the day which many commemorate as the birthday of their deeply venerated, last Independent Boer Republican President, Paul Kruger --  were that ‘white males still control the food-production not even the white females’, that ‘whites stole our land so give it back…”;  ‘whites, before they leave the country, must first transfer their skills”; as well as: “We didn't fight (our struggle) to change the names of the streets. We fought to control the economy of this country..."

This kind of war-talk and hate-speech engenders ever-more emigration by whites wiho still have enough skills to find legal jobs and homes outside South Africa -- and this kind of talk at the same time, also creates a growing gulf between the Afrikaner electorate and the ANC-leadership because of the fear such hate-speech generates among the remaining Afrikaner electorate;

War-talk amidst growing power of armed black gangs:

Such war-talk must of course always be placed in the context of the massive  criminal violence now raging across the country, with South Africa averaging an annual 15,000 attacks against unarmed families, inside their homes, with the victims often working- to middle-class whites and Indians. These attacks are inevitably carried out across the country, except in the  Western Cape,  by armed black gangs averaging 5 male youths each, often carrying AK47s or police/military-issue firearms. The Western Cape’s crime-gangs often consist of Afrikaans-speaking ‘coloured’ youths from the Cape Flats, although the power of black gangsterism is also growing there.

At least 67,600 black youth gang members countrywide:

Blacks in SA increasingly angry with their greedy elite - strikes hit SA again The number of youths carrying out these attacks is staggering: with an average of 5 gang-members each, this means that at least 67,500 (90%) black youths are currently carrying out these armed attacks against unarmed families inside their often very high-security homes. And new members are constantly being recruited, because township youths – many without adult male relatives due to the ravages of AIDS/TB --  have also adopted these successful gangsters as their adult-male role models: these are the new ‘wage-earners’…

It's also known that there are some 15,000 socalled 'coloured' Afrikaans-speaking gang members on the Cape Flats near Cape Town, supporting some 100,000 dependents from the proceeds of violent crime...

These attacks also have jumped dramatically over the past five years under ANC-hegemony, from 9,000 five years ago to close to 15,000 in the 2007/2008 book year up to March 2008.

And its’s the working-class and middle-class whites in the residential and peri-urban areas who are being hit the hardest by these gangs despite the huge army of private-security guards protecting their properties.
They are fighting a formidable, well-informed enemy and homeowners who drop their guard soon discover this. http://www.saps.gov.za/statistics/reports/crimestats/2008/march_april_2001_2008/catagory/robbery_residential.pdf

Gangs have information about victims long before the attack:

That’s according to the latest research by Dr Rudolf Zinn, a senior lecturer in forensic and crime investigation at Unisa and who questioned groups of robbers in jail, showed that they often received information weeks before committing the crime --  from domestic workers or people who knew a family's movements well.

And they are getting away with crime: Zinn also found that most armed gangs who were attacking SA families inside their homes got away with more than 100 serious crimes before finally being apprehende. T

These attacks were already stepped up massively since last year, when  40 armed gang-attacks a day were recorded all over the country - targetting mostly South African white and -Indian middle-class families inside their high-security, fortress-like homes...

His research also showed that robbers gathered thorough advance information about a house. They would question domestic workers or vulnerable or naive family members like children about the behaviour of the family, up to two weeks in advance. Sometimes they also asked around in the neighbourhood.

  • Zinn found that two thirds of the prisoners he'd questioned, had committed on average 103 serious crimes over a period of six years and seven months before being caught. ..

Ninety percent of all the perpetrators were black. And at least 15,000 gang-members live in the coloured, Afrikaans-speaking areas of the Cape Flats near Cape Town – who are also supporting some 100,000 dependents from their lives of crime in one of the most popular tourist destinations in the worl, making it very difficult for police to obtain crime-intelligence about such gangs in such close-knit communities.

White tourists targetted a whopping 15% of the total:

Famine spreads – but white farmers are still being kicked off their land:

And while the country is steadily descending into criminal violence -  the only people still able to put local food on everybody's table are still  being forced off the country’s limited parcels of agricultural land with violent attacks and ‘land-reform’ programmes.

CosatuMarchingAgainstHighFoodPricesGautengJuly2008HungerMapReuters Includes South Africa 2008Pictures: right: the latest WFO Famine Map of the World now also includes South Africa, and left, Sosatu trade union movement members frequently protest against the soaring food-prices: caused by the need to import massive supplies of expensive grain from abroad due to falling local food-production as SA ‘s professional farmers are being forced off their land.

The Afrikaner farmers now face a new wave of pressure to relinquish their last farms through new proposed anti-white land-confiscation laws – even while one deputy-minister this weekend addressed the annual general meeting of AgriSA farmers’ union this weekend, calling on Afrikaner farmers ‘not to leave the country because we need you’.

It’s these deeply confusing, mixed signals from the ANC-regime ‘s various leaders – embroiled in internal power-battles and thus engaged in gathering as much populist supporters as they can -- which are causing so much distress -- because at the same time, the farmers also are forced to vacate their shrinking number of food-producing farms because of the government’s ongoing so-called ‘land-reform’ programmes and because the regime at the same time, also is not allocating any dedicated policing forces to specifically protect the country’s food-producers and their families in the countryside, despite constant pleas from farmers to do so….

In 1994 there still were 85,000 white commercial farmers employing and housing 1,2million fulltime black and coloured workers: in 2005 the SA tax records indicated that only 13,500 white farmers remained (on less than ONE PERCENT of the entire SA land surface) with less than 350,000 fulltime, live-in employees on their payrolls, a Dutch news reports:

“Why do they torture us Afrikaners so much when attacking us?”

The question also being asked widely among Afrikaners these days why so many white victims are cursed in racist language and tortured and extensively mutilated before they are murdered or left for dead? http://censorbugbear-reports.blogspot.com/2008/08/why-are-sa-whites-being-tortured-so.html

Only 11 percent of 40,000 rape-cases convicted…

40,000 rape cases in courts up to June 2009 --  780 cases a DAY…

violentcrimesAgainstSA Children Stats CJCP org za 2006 - 2008 Friday, October 09, 2009 – PRETORIA.  Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Jeff Radebe said in parliament that a countrywide total of 39,946 new rape cases appeared on the rolls of magistrate's courts in all nine provinces between July 1, 2008 and the end of June this year.

  • That is an average of 780 new rape cases a day countrywide – but less than 11% (4,244 rapists) were actually convicted…
  • Radebe, replying to a parliamentary question, said the total figure was obtained from his department's integrated case management system.

The same source shows the conviction rate over this 12-month period was less than 11% of the total.

  • "In respect of convictions, there are approximately 4,244 finalised cases, or people who have been found guilty and convicted for rape."

Radebe said he was “not able to put a figure on the total number of people arrested for rape. "In respect of arrested persons, the [department] does not keep such records and is unable to provide information in this regard."

  • "Over the last year, the highest numbers of rape matters appearing in courts were in KwaZulu, which enrolled 7,278 cases, followed by Western Cape, which enrolled 6,411. Northern Cape enrolled the least number of cases at 1,462."

The majority of rapes were carried out by young adults, aged 21 to 30.  According to figures included with the question, well over half the offenders (22,943) fell within this age group. -

Claim in South Africa: Rape linked to ‘manhood’ instead of ‘misogynist-hatred’:
