Two men get life prison for human sacrifice

By Baldwin Ndaba, The Star, Johannesburg - Two men who decapitated their own friend and slashed off his genitals for muti (traditional medicine) have been ordered to sit in jail for life.
Summarising her sentence, Judge Lucy Mailula said Xolani Kubheka, 30, and Siphiwe Khanyile, 25, acted on orders from their former co-accused, the late inyanga (herbal doctor) Vusi Sibiya, to allow him to obtain the body-parts so that he could perform his witchcraft activities.Judge Mailula said Sibiya, who died in September, had initially made an offer to Khanyile to get him a male head and genitals and promised to pay him a sum of R2000.
Khanyile then recruited Kubheka. "The two went around their informal settlement of Thembelihle looking for a possible suspect but without success," the Judge summarised in her ruling. After repeated failures, the Judge said the two then decided to kill their own friend and drinking buddy Johannes Banda on April 4 2006.
"All three of them were friends and spent most of their time drinking at the shebeen owned by Sibiya. On that particular fateful day, all of them were seated at the same shebeen, where Kubheka and Khanyile decided to Banda the victim. While they were drinking, the two (Kubheka and Khanyile) suggested to Banda that they must go to drink further at another shebeen but he was lured to a secluded area where he was killed and his head and genitals cut," the Judge ruled. She said the murder was "pre-planned, pre-meditated and well calculated. Tribal healers increasingly powerful in South Africa:
The organisation Doctors For Life - representing a large numbers of medical doctors, dentists, veterinaries and other professionals – started warning from 2004 that South Africa’s legalisation of African witchcraft was very dangerous:read law "Traditional healers should be kept out of South Africa's health care system because traditional medicines were potentially harmful to patients,' they warned. It is also seen inside the political system that traditional healers yield great political power behind the scene with ruling-party high-level officials.
More muti slaughter will take place – prediction:
DFL also predicted that the Bill would provoke more so-called "muti" murders -- made to provide human body parts for traditional healers from people who were alive while the body parts were harvested. Many healers share the belief that "human tissue can make powerful medicine," the doctors' organisation warned.
Human sacrifice
The Doctors for Life campaigners were correct: ever since the new Act was adopted and ‘traditional healers’ were placed on a legal par with medical practitioners, a gruesome, thriving trade has grown up in the trade of human body parts.
A large variety of body parts are being harvested: penises, eyes, noses, vaginas, breasts, heads and limbs - with the hapless victims preferably screaming and fully aware. The 'traditional healers' who order these body parts are almost never prosecuted, even though some victims survive the mutilation see here The live harvesting is necessary, they say, because the victims' pain and fear 'increases the power of the muti.'
Besides the fact that whites also are increasingly mutilated while alive and their body parts harvested for muti before they are slain, fears are also growing among white South Africans that they will increasingly be forced to submit to the local-level political rule of the traditional leaders and their witchdoctors. 200 people slaughtered annually for muti by 2007:
Annually in South Africa, an average 200 people are reported slaughtered while still alive to harvest such 'muti' body parts – although these facts are not reflected in the official SA Police Statistics. Lately there has been a peak in white muti-murder victims.

On July 17 2009 a 48-year-old man accused of ‘violating a corpse and selling human body parts” was denied bail at the Acornhoek Magistrates' Court . The famous South African ‘muti-killer-hunter,’ captain Leonard Hlathi said Philemon Batulekile Baloyi was one of two men arrested for the crime in June. Baloyi was caught after an “inyanga,” (traditional healer) who he tried to sell body parts to, alerted police. The suspect was found in possession of a white woman's breast and a manicured left hand. "He told police that he received the body parts from a certain man at a funeral parlor, who was also arrested.

The funeral home's official did not deny that they had arranged the shipment of the bodies of two Dutch tourists, a mother and daughter who had died in one accident in Lydenburg in May, exactly as was described by their arrested ex-employee. Two other members of the same family, a father and son who ran a hotel in a small Dutch town, also were seriously injured in this crash.
Baloyi wanted to be paid 800 Euro’ for the body-parts. He in turn had bought the body parts for 80 Euro from Mr Ben Mongadi, 35, described as a part-time employee at a funeral parlor.

Elderly Dutch tourists shot at, robbed, White River
“We suspect they followed us from the fuel station because we were tourists…’
Marloth Park, 2009-12-02 Buks Viljoen of Beeld newspaper reports that four elderly Dutch tourists were shot at enroute to their Marloth Park holiday cottage near the Kruger Wildlife Reserve and robbed of about R100,000’s worth of electronic equipment and personal documents. Their rental car was hijacked and they were left stranded at the roadway in the pitch-dark. The attack happened at 20:30.
“It was a shocking incident but fortunately we are still alive,” said one victim, Robert Haagenaars, 66. The group arrived on 23 November in South Africa for a countrywide tour. Haagenaars, his wife Will Haagenaars-Segers (66), her sister Anna Segers (61) and her husband Aloysiun Verhoeven (62) were attacked at 20:30 in Plaston near the Kruger Park international airport. Haagenaars said they had left the wildlife reserve through the Kruger gate and were enroute to the Marloth Park holiday-cottage resort via White River.

The armed gang started driving alongside the Dutch tourists in a white VW Golf and gestured for them too move over and stop. When Verhoeven – who was driving – stepped on the gas pedal, the gangsters fired shots at them. One of the bullets cracked open the front windshield, just missing Verhoeven’s hand and hitting the control panel, Police later found three bullet-holes in the abandoned car, Beeld writes.

Verhoeven stopped and two armed black men jumped out and forced the four tourists from their Nissan vehicle. “They shouted that they were looking for money,’ said Haagenaars. After looting the Dutch of their valuables, the two armed men drove away with the Nissan and the VW Golf at high speed, back in the direction of the petrol station – leaving the tourists stranded next to the road.
They straggled to a farm house about 100m from the scene and sought help – and the police found the rental Nissan about 2km from the crime scene, abandoned next to the road. The car had three bullet holes and police picked up a spent cartridge from a 9mm handgun at the scene. The tourists lost all their belongings: cameras, cellphones, video cameras, handbags, wallets and personal documents. This was the third time the Haagenaars visited South Africa. They were going to leave for Cape Town on Thursday, but will now remain in the Lowveld while they wait for another rental car and their replacement passports from the Dutch embassy.They plan to return to the Netherlands on 18 December. “Nobody knows the number of immigrants now living in South Africa – and we know even less about who they are, where they are from, what they do for a living nor where they live.It’s high time for a fresh immigration policy … but I estimate that there’s up to 9-million,” warns demography expert Prof Flip Smit.
Latest ethnic-cleansing outbreak targetting 3,000 Zimbabweans at De Doorns in the Western Cape might be the start of another season of xenophobic violence…
The latest violence targetting African foreigners at De Doorns in the Western Cape this month, has him fearing that this violence will expand exactly as it did so rapidly last year, when so many foreign Africans were ethnically-cleansed from black townships and suddenly needed help with shelters and food from the International Red Cross, writes Prof Smit in Beeld newspaper today.

He writes: “It’s still not known precisely why last year’s violent events exploded so suddenly all across the country”. Basically, he said, it’s usually due to growing unemployment and the battle for survival – finding food, shelter and services for these migrants.
He said South Africa has since the early 19th century always had a system in which African migrant labourers were drawn to new ‘employment centres’ such as the mines and urban areas – and under the previous system, such migrant workers always had to return to their homelands under a strict border-control regimen.
However the borders were through wide-open since 1986, and migrant workers now bring their families to South Africa and settle permanently.
“Since 1994, the flood-gates of unhampered migration across our borders were opened and African migrants have been streaming into our cities and towns from across the continent. We can’t view this pattern seperately from the growing urbanisation of South Africans,’ he said.
The causes of the present unrest surrounding migrant workers in the Western Cape are based on much more than just a ‘lack of service-delivery’ to their squatter camps, he said.
“The ANC-government now is suddenly confronted by the quote - ‘danger of being flooded by foreign migrants who are stealing our jobs’ - unquote, he noted.
And the ANC-regime thus won’t be able to avoid reinstating a form of immigration control, however much they may dislike the notion due to the previous border-controls of the apartheid-government.
“Our borders with six neighbouring stoods stretch thousands of kilometres and are as difficult to control as to try and stop the westerly wind,’ he noted.“Nobody knows the exact number of documented, undocumented refugees and/or asylum seekers now in the country. The 2001 counted 447,201 such immigrants, but the 2007 Community Survey counted 1,2-million. Now, the estimates vary wildly from 1,million to 12-million.
“At one stage there was even talk of a ‘Mugabe-Tsunami’ in which more than 10,000 Zimbabweans a day were streaming across the borders. The fact that a small village such as De Doorns was housing 3,000 illegal Zimbabweans who were forced to flee from xenophobic violence this week, made people sit up and take notice. “
The ANC government caught in a dilemma:
“Developed countries are being accused that they are causing a brain-drain from African-states, but at the same time South Africa is also guilty of this by participating in this plunder of Africa’s most able workers,’ he said. “The trade unions speak with forked tongues too. On the one hand they are pro-immigrants, but are against immigration. The ANC owes neighbouring state a ‘debt’ which they need to pay back for their support of the ANC during the struggle-years before 1994 and so all these workers are ‘their brothers and sisters’. But they are anti-immigration because ‘foreigners will create a disadvantage for the ANC’s affirmative-action programmes’

Meanwhile the European Union is also subtly calling for stronger border-controls in South Africa because many of these migrants also use South Africa as a jumping off point for migration to western countries, he writes.
*There is a general impression in South Africa, justifiably or not, that migrants often are carriers of diseases, place a heavy burden on health-care facilities, and are linked with crime, drugs- and (the slavery trade) i.e. people-smuggling. South Africans often refer to them as “makwerekwere” , he writes.
“The unwillingness or incapacity to produce documents for so many millions of immigrants lead to massive exploitation of these people”, he warned.“They need to take illegal jobs and are easily exploited by corrupt officials and the SAPS. Without documents and a permanent abode, they also are unable to obtain banking services to send money back to relatives at home. So they carry their cash on their bodies, thus becoming what is referred to as “Mobile ATM’s” and robbed. They also cannot gain access to schools, health services or housing legally. Most live in the inner cities in apartments and sublet.

The UN Development Aid study of May this year levelled considerable criticism against the South African immigration policies. They pointed to the lack of ability and interest in even developing a working policy and to then apply it.
There’s not even a central data-base for such immigrants and its present policy concentrates solely on security and control. Development-aspects are underutilised. He said the report pleaded for South Africa to launch a workable immigration policy, starting with an effective data-base – which must differentiate between documented migrants, undocumented ones, asylum-seekers and (economic) refugees.
“ideally all persons inside the borders of South Africa must be provided with documentation to establish their legal status. This would empower people, protect them from exploitation, and also allows control.
“Mechanisms must be created to allow people to migrate into South Africa legally – options such as work-permits and a freedom-of-migration protocol for southern African residents should be investigated. Such measures would go a long way towards ending the exploitation of foreigners in South Africa, he wrote. Smit is an ex-rector at the University of Pretoria, concentrating on Demography.

White lawyers underrepresented on SA Bench
“ANC’s racist obsession covers up racial discrimination” - report
JOHANNESBURG - The pursuit of ‘race and gender representivity’ has been an obsession of the African National Congress since October 1998. For a brief period, during Justice Minister Enver Surty 's term, the expertise and experience of individual applicants for judicial office was given greater weight.
However, under the direction of the new Minister of Justice, Jeff Radebe, and his allies on the JSC, the primary consideration in the choosing judges is (once again) the attainment of a judiciary which ‘reflects the race and gender proportions of the total population’. White South Africans now are severely underrepresented on the Bench.
As of July 2009 - 44,1% of the judges were white. This is considerably less than their proportional percentage of the advocates profession (75,6%) and the attorney's profession (73,7%). See graphs and tables on this link
Graphic: ‘As is the case with educational, medical, accounting, engineering and all technical professionals, the pool of judges also is small in South Africa: judges don’t come from the ‘general population’ but from a small pool of attorneys… South Africa now has 1,309 attorneys qualified for the Bench, of whom 281 are white women;
This policy is, on the face of it, meant to widen the pool from which judges have previously been appointed. This is proving to be an optical illusion. This policy has, in reality, severely restricted the pool from which judges are appointed; and it has been used to cover-up for severe racial discrimination.
This is because judges are not appointed from the general population, but from the ranks of those with (at the very least) a legal qualification.
When measured against the appropriate yardstick – the (tiny) proportion they take up of the legal profession - white South Africans are now severely underrepresented on the bench.

Two critical Afrikaners commit suicide in Magalies
Liberal journalist Chris Louw shot himself with a mystery-AK47; Environmentalist Andrie Loubser had two gunshot wounds to the head
JOHANNESBURG (Sapa) – Liberal journalist Chris”Boetman” Louw, 57 who was found shot in the head with an AK-47 military attack carbine on Tuesday, committed suicide, North West police said."He told his wife to stay indoors, then went outside. There's a place he planted some flowers, its a special place to him we understand. And in that place is where he shot himself with an AK-47 rifle," said Superintendent Lesego Metsi.

Louw feared regime planned ethnic cleansing of Afrikaners from Free State University:
Louw, a liberal Afrikaner journalist who was amongst the first group of Afrikaners who started negotiating with the exiled ANC in 1987 in Senegal,had become increasingly critical of the present ANC-regime -- also because of his work as freelance agricultural journalist and the growing number of farm attacks and some 40 burglaries on his own smallholding at Silkaatsnek in the Magalies region. Critical of F W de Klerk and his brother:
Louw was known for his controversial open letter to the late Willem de Klerk entitled, "Boetman is die bliksem in [Boetman is angry]". This was followed by a book, "Boetman en die swanesang van die verligtes [Boetman and the swansong of the liberals]". It became known as the "Boetman debate". The letter to Reverend Wimpie De Klerk, a National Party opinion-maker and the influential brother of former president FW de Klerk, accused that older generation of Afrikaner leaders of political cowardice and deceit by sending the young to the border wars to defend apartheid.
- Louw was also part of a group of 61 South Africans who held meetings with the then-banned African National Congress in Senegal in 1987, the so-called Senegal-gangers. He was a journalist for several publications, including the Mail & Guardian, Farmers' Weekly, Vaderland and Oggendblad and wrote many articles for Beeld newspaper. Louw is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
Louw died while his wife was home with their two children. Police said they had found suicide notes saved on Louw's computer. The first was dated for November 29. "He wrote a suicide note on the 29th. He changed the date to the 30th and he couldn't take his life then," said Metsi. Police have also found a hard copy of a suicide note, dated the 30th.
Metsi said police were investigating where Louw found the miulitary attack carbine – which is usually found among the criminal fraternity. "We're investigating where he found this gun because the wife confirmed he did not own it. It had some rust so it looks like it was hidden somewhere before he committed suicide."
Family and friends earlier gathered at his farm near Hartbeespoort Dam in the North West to offer their condolences. "It's always a shock and of course he was an old colleague and friend," said Foeta Krige, who found Louw's body. Krige said Louw went missing on Monday afternoon shortly after 2pm. The local neighbourhood watch had searched for him but couldn't find him.
Worried about Magalies / Brits crime wave
Krige, a former colleague of Louw, drove over to provide support to the family. He found Louw's body near the house on Tuesday morning. He had a shot to the head. Krige said his former boss at Radio Sonder Grense had just secured a contract to write a book. He had however, been concentrating on a crime wave in the area in his most recent writings for Beeld newspaper and was very worried about the subject. Earlier, the Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Mulder said: "The outspoken way in which Chris Louw had struggled with the problems of South Africa, resulted in nobody being indifferent to him. "In his last news articles he had, as a former member of the Dakar group, expressed the disillusionment of many South Africans whose high expectations of the new South Africa did not realise."
Mulder continued: "I had great appreciation for the honest way in which he criticised others, but also himself. The fearless way in which he stormed at everything and everyone which he regarded as being dishonest, remains his big contribution to the South African debate."
