Whites often run down by ‘hit-and-run’ drivers in SA

Many Afrikaner "whites" are being run down and killed in public by so-called hit and run drivers. World-famous Olympic swimming champion Nathalie du Toit became disabled when her scooter was run over by a ‘hit-and-run taxi driver’. These deliberate racist murders in traffic can however hardly ever be proven. However one of those 'accidential drivers' - taxi-driver Percyval Matji - was actually convicted of murder on September 11 2009 for chasing down Afrikaans pupil Bernadine Kruger . He killed her in full few of a horrified lineup of people sitting still in a traffic backup. He drove up to her at high speed in his taxi, rode her scooter’s bumper, following the young girl when she switched lanes in a deliberate attempt to get away from him, hitting her – and then running over her again after she was lying on the pavement. That side of the dual-carriage way had been nearly empty. It took place in the peak morning traffic and eye-witnesses told Radio 702 of the murder shortly as it happened, speaking to the radio station on their cellphones from Pretoria.
Matji, the court found, had hounded the young Afrikaans girl , who was dressed in her uniform, driving up to her scooter at high speed, and then riding her bumper while she switched lanes, desperate to try and get away from him. He did this in full view of a long tailback of horrified people waiting in a traffic jam in the opposite lane of the dual-carriageway. The testimony in court which convicted tax-driver Percyvall Matji of murdering her, made it very clear that he was running her down and killing her deliberately: he also switched lanes repeatedly and rode her bumper when she tried to get away from him, then he hit her at high speed, the girl was tossed into the air, and when she hit the pavement he backed up and ran over the girl again.
The driver was arrested only because people were sitting still in traffic and saw it all – many took pictures with their cellphones. There also were witnesses who were not too scared to testify in court again him. He vehemently denied having run her down deliberately, his ‘explanation’ was that ‘she was in the way’. He accused all the witnesses in court – of ‘waging a racist campaign against him’. His family was adamant that it was all a racist plot.

Taxi driver gets R1,000 bail on first appearnce:
Shortly after her murder, Percyval Matji’s bail application was not opposed by the State on condition that he remained at his address in Nellmapius Street in Mamelodi. In his application Matji told the court he had a previous conviction of driving without a licence. He was released on a fine of R250. The matter was postponed to April 6 to allow for further police investigation. He was arrested at the Garsfontein police station a day after. He initially faced a charge of culpable homicide –however it was changed to murder later. Matji’s family, seated in one of the front rows of the court gallery, looked visibly pleased that bail had been granted at the time. However, the Prosecuting Authority agreed with the formal petitions lodged by her mother and the Freedom Front Plus party’s legal team to change this charge to murder.

On Friday, September 11 2009, Matji was found guilty of murder and reckless driving. Handing down judgment magistrate Edmund Patterson said: “It was not a mistake. It was not negligence. It was murder. Matji deliberately followed s Kruger and wanted her out of his way.
