Black-gang attacks against white families soar

Gangs operating with impunity attack family homes everywhere… all across the land:
DURBAN. Sept 12 2010 - Craig Adendorff of the security group Sun Cell Watch, which covers Sunningdale, Ballito, Umhlanga, Amanzimtoti, Virginia, Durban North, Riverside, Glen Anil, Berea, Glenwood and Pinetown, painted a gloomy picture of the soaring armed robberies and attacks against families inside their homes. "… (they) have basically had a 10-month year, because policing was beefed up during the World Cup, and now they are playing catch-up," he said.
These facts have also been recorded countrywide by the citizens who maintain a new crime-tracking website, http://www.farmitracker.com
- Attacks against white families inside their homes have been recorded since May 1 2010, when the site was launched. And these attacks continued right through the World Cup 2010 – despite claims by the SA Police to the contrary.
The past month has been really bad:
Adendorff of Sun Cell Watch also confirms the rising number of attacks against suburban families: "The past month has been really bad. The 2010 to 2011 crime statistics are going to be shockers. All the areas where we operate have seen a marked upswing in recent weeks."
Adendorff and his wife had a close call recently. "In Sunningdale we had three robberies in a single day last week. The alarm went off in a house directly behind ours at 12.30pm one afternoon, and my wife ran out. She was confronted by armed robbers who threatened her with a gun. They were laden with stolen goods. I leapt into my car to try to block their escape vehicle, but in the few minutes it took me to get there, they had escaped."
- He did not blame the poor policing – but homeowners’ ‘complacency:
- “Most of us are apathetic. We should give the police more support and back community policing forums to the hilt. Criminals are right there waiting to strike when we drop our guard. We must be vigilant at all times."
“Highly trained and organised criminal gangs have switched to high-yield robberies of unprotected families at their homes:”
Verdan Menne and Brian Jones head the South African Community Network (SA Can), a community safety initiative that focuses on the outer western area as far as Cato Ridge and serves the Midlands farming community. Menne said they had observed an "upward trend" in armed house robberies this year. "We feel this is linked to the decrease in more serious categories of crime including ATM bombings, armed robberies and hijacking.
- "The people responsible for those crimes are highly trained and organised. Now the risk has become too great for them. Defence force members accompany cash-in-transit vans and armed robbery task teams have been established as police focus on serious crime. The risk that criminals will be shot or captured is much greater.
“More planning is needed, and unpredictable factors might mean a lower haul than anticipated, so they have turned their energy to high-yield home robberies."
- Menne said well-off neighbourhoods in areas such as Umhlanga, Durban North, Hillcrest and Westville remain prime targets.

Zastron a living hell:
Sept 12 2010 - “Living in Zastron has become a living hell for Susan Muller (33) a stroke and cancer sufferer. who has to survive on a monthly medical pension of only R1,000. “Affirmative shoppers” have visited her home 4 times over the past month, but they will not come back - after the last burglary there is nothing to take and no means for an unemployed medically unfit person who lives on a mere R1,000 medical pension to replace anything.
Constable Nkukane of Zastron police on Sunday confirmed that there is only one vehicle making the rounds in Zastron and not much they can do. He says it's not the cops blame. DOUGLASDALE: Sept 5 2010 - Actress Christina Storm surprised in her bedroom by security guard
DOUGLASDALE. Christina Storm never used to lock the front door of her townhouse, writes Sondag newspaper. However nowadays she makes double-certain to lock herself in very securely. The actress had ‘raised a hysterical Godiva-like scream”, writes Sondag, when she woke up and found a security guard lying on her bed. “I never used to lock the front door because I know the security guards look after us. I have the fullest faith in them and often gives them Kentucky (fried chicken) or chops and wors (sausages),’ she said. She went to bed at around 9.30pm on the night in question, and woke up by the presence of the security guard at 1.30am. “fortunately my mouth has a huge scream and I just screamed and screamed’, she said. Organised crime syndicates put Pretoria suburbs under 24/7 siege
7 September 2010 – Pretoria News: Pretoria's south-west suburbs are under siege following a spate of house robberies and burglaries which have left residents living in fear.The crime wave of armed robberies, assaults and burglaries, has left residents demanding action from police who they claim are not interested in their safety.
Police sources and security company ADT have confirmed an increase in the number of attacks on households across the area.

- "These guys are operating with impunity and are attacking homes everywhere. We believe there are a number of syndicates targeting these areas with several of them splitting up and attacking different areas at the same time," said a detective.These syndicates were using various vehicles to commit their crimes and specifically targeting cash and luxury electrical appliances, he said.
The policeman's concerns have been backed up by ADT. The security company confirmed an increase in burglaries and house robberies at its clients' homes in Valhalla and Wierda Park. ADT spokeswoman Lizel Swart said they had not noticed any specific pattern but there was a clear increase, especially in the past three months. "These attacks are happening throughout the day at different times, with a definite increase in the Wierda Park area," she said. The soaring crime has residents living in fear of their lives, they say. For Jameel Bhana the fear is very real. His wife Soomaya and their domestic narrowly escaped injury when their house was ransacked on August 18 by four men driving a metallic blue Toyota Conquest.The two were forced to hide and lock themselves in an outside cottage when the gang forced their way into their home.

- "I was cooking when I heard footsteps followed by an aggressive knock on the front door. I became suspicious and told the domestic that I would not open the door." What followed was a terrifying ordeal. The two women watched the men using a crowbar to try to break open a security door before they smashed open a window. "We just heard glass break. Before we knew it they were in the kitchen. I quickly called my neighbour and begged her for help. I told her to go outside and scream at them."Despite being discovered and the neighbour yelling that the police were on their way the suspects continued looting the house before they fled."Jameel Bhana said through his enquiries he had discovered several other houses had been burgled by the same men. "I spoke to a domestic across the road from the house that was burgled in Freya Road. She described the same vehicle and people who had come into their home." Bhana said that a home owner had told him that she thought the men were contractors but when she heard glass breaking, she knew something was wrong."She later saw the four suspects carrying items from the house and placing them in the blue Toyota Conquest and fleeing the scene," he said.

For Sydney Cowley discovering his Freya Road house ransacked and his electrical household appliances missing was a nightmare. It appears, police said, that his house was attacked shortly after the four-man gang had fleeced Bhana's home."My neighbour saw a car in the driveway and heard some banging in the house. She thought it was my father who often comes round. But when she saw three men running out of the house with electrical goods she activated her panic button," said Cowley.The burglars knew what they were doing, taking the right power supply cables for the computer and laptops and picking the correct remote for the Play Station 3."The community is fed-up. These people come into our homes in broad daylight," said Cowley.
SAPS blames residents: ‘they should keep their windows and doors locked…”
Bhana said he was furious. A policeman who came to his house for follow up investigations the next day, told him that there were no leads in the case and his docket had been "filed". I told him about the other burglaries and gave him a description of the car, but he said the docket would be filed until we could update him with new leads. Why should we update him? Surely he should follow up the information we have given him?"
- Wierdabrug police station spokeswoman Captain Agnes Huma said they were aware of the crime increases and had put a plan in place to target criminals. "We cannot divulge that plan. We have had a number of successes, which we can also not reveal. We are appealing to the community to assist us in combating burglaries and house robberies by ensuring their doors and windows are locked, not leaving valuables in cars parked outside their houses and burning the boxes of electrical appliances instead of throwing them in dustbins. We want residents to do this because if criminals see appliance boxes they know you have just bought new goods, which they will try to steal."

The chaos in the law courts hinders conviction rates…

The hundreds-of-thousands of criminals responsible for 2,1-million crimes between April 2009 to March 2010 are still walking around. They were never caught. The SAPS crime statistics showed a very low arrest-rate: for instance only 18,4% of the armed-robbers were arrested; 68,2% of the murderers; and 38,5% of the rapists.
The National Prosecuting authority says this confirms their own statistics – only 1,04million of the crime-dossiers last year ever reached them – and of those dossiers, 242,103 cases were withdrawn; 50,361 convicted criminals were referred on remand and never prosecuted; and only 88,6% of these 355,000 cases were actually found guilty and jailed. These statistics were released by NPA chief adv Menzi Simelane at a recent seminar at the Institute for Security Studies He said the chaos in the courts is one of their biggest headaches hindering their conviction rates, as are the poor investigation levels by the SAPS.
“Witnesses fail to show, important evidence ‘disappears’ and the cases are repeatedly postponed. The courts now sit an average of only 3 hours and 40 minutes a day.’
David Bruce, senior researcher at the Centre for the Studies in Violence and Reconciliation, downplayed Simelane’s warnings, saying that ‘no country in the world has a 100% capture rate of criminals.. we are not the worst judicial system in the world…’
He did criticise the ‘selectivity’ of the SAPS. “They do not deal with the heart of the problem of violent crime, that this is committed mostly in the poorest regions of South Africa,’ he claimed (inaccurately: the largest number of violent crimes now target families in wealthier suburbs). “Instead the police focus on house-robberies, business robberies and car hijackings’. He also criticised the fact that the SAPS’ statistics are maintained so poorly. “The past six years the SAPS has not maintained its statistics properly. My worry is that this is having a great impact on statistics countrywide. Sept 11 2010: "May I ask you to be silent for ten seconds? Just be silent and listen. Ten seconds. And listen… What we hear are the sounds of life in the greatest city on earth. No place in the world, no place in human history, is as richly varied and vibrant and dynamic as New York City. You hear the cars, you hear the people, you hear them rushing to their various destinations, you hear the sounds of business and of pleasure, you hear the cheers, you hear the cries, the buzzing sounds of human activity. And that is how it should be. Always.
Now close your eyes - I know it's a beautiful day, but close your eyes. I have been told that this day nine years ago was just such a beautiful day -- and remember, or try to remember, or try to imagine the sounds which were heard here on this spot under this same blue sky exactly nine years ago. The sound of shock, the sound of destruction, the sound of panic, the sound of pain, the sound of terror. Did New York deserve this? Did America deserve this? Did the West deserve this? What, my friends, would you say to people who argue that New York, that America, that the West had itself to blame for those horrible sounds? There are people in this city who argue this. And they are angry because we are gathered here today to commemorate, to make a stand, to draw the line.
I have come from the other side of the Atlantic to share your grief for those who died here nine years ago. I have not forgotten how I felt that day. The scenes are imprinted on my soul, as they are on yours. But our hearts were not broken in the same way as the hearts of the relatives and friends of those who lost their lives here. Many relatives of the victims are here in our midst today. I wish to take this opportunity to express my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to them and to all of the people of New York and America. Humbly, I stand here before you as a Dutchman and a European.I, too, however, cannot forget.How can anyone forget?
Let me remind you of the words from Darryl Worley's 9/11 song.
"Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell"
Worley's response is our response: No, we will NEVER forget. We are here today because we have not forgotten all the loved ones that were lost and those left to carry on. And neither has the world. When the forces of Jihad attacked New York, they attacked the world. Among those lost were people from 55 nations, people of every religion and every persuasion. No place on earth had a more multi-ethnic, multi-racial, and multi-lingual workforce than New York's proud towers.
- That is exactly why they were targeted. They constituted an insult to those who hold that there can be no peaceful cooperation among people and nations without submission to Sharia; to those who wish to impose the legal system of Islam on the rest of us.
But New York and Sharia are incompatible. New York stands for freedom, openness and tolerance. New York's Mayor recently said that New York is "rooted in Dutch tolerance." Those are true words. New York is not intolerant. How can it be? New York is open to the world.
Suppose New York were intolerant. Suppose it only allowed people of one persuasion within its walls. Then it would be like Mecca, a city without freedom. Whatever your religion, persuasion or gender is, in New York you will find a home. In Mecca, if your religion isn't Islam, you are not welcome.
- Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf claims the right to build a mosque, a house of Sharia here - on this hallowed ground.
But, friends, I have not forgotten and neither have you. That is why we are here today. To draw the line. Here, on this sacred spot. We are here in the spirit of America's founding fathers. We are here in the spirit of freedom. We are here in the spirit of Abraham Lincoln, the President who freed the slaves.
- President Lincoln said: "Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves." These words are the key to our survival. The tolerance that is crucial to our freedom requires a line of defense.
Mayor Bloomberg uses tolerance as an argument to allow Imam Rauf and his sponsors to build their so-called Cordoba Mosque. Mayor Bloomberg forgets, however, that openness cannot be open-ended. A tolerant society is not a suicidal society. It must defend itself against the powers of darkness, the force of hatred and the blight of ignorance. It cannot tolerate the intolerant - and survive.
This means that we must not give a free hand to those who want to subjugate us. An overwhelming majority of Americans is opposed to building this mosque. So is an overwhelming majority everywhere in the non-Islamic world.
Because we all realize what is at stake here. We know what this so-called Cordoba mosque really means.Imam Rauf maintains that American secular law and Sharia law are based on the same principles. He refuses to condemn terrorists because he says terrorism is "a very complex question".
- He says America is "an accessory to the crime that happened on 9/11." "In fact," he literally said, "in the most direct sense, Osama bin Laden is made in the USA."
He also says that "terrorism will only end when the West acknowledges the harm it has done to Muslims."
That is why this man should not play the game he has in mind here in Manhattan. His "Blame the West, Blame America"-message is an insult. Americans - and by extension, all of us whose civilization was also attacked on 9/11/2001 - are not to blame for what happened here nine years ago today.
- Osama bin Laden is not made in the USA. The West never "harmed" Islam before it harmed us.
Most Americans do not want this so-called Cordoba Mosque to be built here. They understand that it is both a provocation and a humiliation. They understand the triumphant narrative of a mosque named after the Great Mosque of Cordoba which was constructed where a Christian cathedral stood before the land was conquered by Islam.
An overwhelming majority of Americans is opposed to building an Islamic cultural center close to Ground Zero. There is no lack of mosques in New York. There are dozens of buildings in which Muslims can pray. It isn't about a lack of space for prayers. It's about the symbolic meaning.
We who have come to speak today, object to this mosque project because its promoter and his wealthy sponsors have never suggested building a center to promote tolerance and interfaith understanding where it is really needed: In Mecca - a town where non-Muslims are not even allowed to enter, let alone build churches, synagogues, temples or community centers.
Not a single church is allowed in Saudi Arabia… Jews cannot move their lips in prayer on the Temple Mount…
Ordinary Americans object to the mosque project because currently no fewer than ten major multi-million dollar mosque projects are being planned in the United States as well as dozens in Europe, while not a single church is allowed in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while Jews are not even allowed to move their lips in prayer on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem,
while the oldest Christians in the world, the Copts, are not free to renovate their churches, let alone to build one in Egypt.
My friends, that is why we are here today. What happens in New York must be seen in the perspective of the world. The events nine years ago made an enormous impact everywhere. Most people shared your pain, but, unfortunately, some did not.
Nine years ago, when the news of the terrible atrocity in New York reached Europe, Muslim youths danced in the streets. In a poll, two thirds of the Muslim immigrants in the Netherlands expressed partial or full understanding for the 9/11 terrorists. If a mosque were built here on Ground Zero such people would feel triumphant.
But we, we will not betray those who died on 9/11. For their sakes we cannot tolerate a mosque on or near Ground Zero.
- For their sakes loud and clear we say: No mosque here! For their sakes, we must draw the line. So that New York, rooted in Dutch tolerance, will never become New Mecca.
But, let us also express our gratitude for the heroes of 9/11, those who went down in that Pennsylvania field, those who were standing freedom's watch at the Pentagon, and those who were here in New York nine years ago to risk and lose their lives for the victims.
Friends, in honor of these victims, these heroes and their families, I believe that the words of Ronald Reagan, spoken in Normandy on the 40th anniversary of D-Day, resonate with new purpose on this hallowed spot. President Reagan said: "We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free."
And, we, too, will always remember the victims of 9/11 and their loved ones who were left behind; We, too, will always be proud of the heroes;
