Was Andries Putter killed for R1m insurance claim?

Boksburg-North: The initial story told by everyone at the crime scene to many journalists was that 20-year-old Afrikaner resident Andries Putter had his throat cut after four black men in a 4wd vehicle with ANC-stickers accosted him and his friend ‘Johantjie’, 23, urging them to vote ANC. The two were then chased and Andries Putter had his throat cut. On July 4, Boksburg police arrested a man - who is being charged with murdering Putter so that he could collect his R1-million insurance policy...The murdered Afrikaner, Andries Putter, was pictured below in the veld after he was found with his throat cut next to Campbell Road in Boksburg North. Local journalist Fanie Mthupha and Beeld journalists all obtained information at the scene and from a female relative that 'four black males had driven up in a 4wd vehicle and started an argument with Andries and his friend who was only identified as ‘Johantjie’. When Andries told them he wasn’t going to vote at all, the black men assaulted and chased the Afrikaners – and Andries Putter was then found with his throat cut." Even the police confirmed the story at the time.
It was confirmed at the time -- by many sources interviewed by Beeld journalists and by LookLocal journalist Fanie Mthupha -- that there had been four black men in a vehicle with ANC-stickers. Gauteng SAPF spokesman LtCol Ndou Tshisikhawe -- while willing to confirm the murder of the man at about 8.10pm., was only unable to confirm that the 4wd vehicle had been covered in ANC-stickers. According to Tshisikhawe, talking to the news media at the time, 'the deceased man and a friend (23) were walking next to the open veld in Campbell Road when a double cabbed 4x4 stopped next to them. Four black men started an argument with the two friends regarding the elections. “The debate then became heated,” said the policeman. "The deceased's friend told the police that the four suspects then attacked them. The deceased and his friend ran in different directions to escape their attackers. One of them ran to a nearby house and the other into the veld," said Tshisikhawe. "The friend returned after a while to find his friend dead. His throat was slit."

Boksburg police on July 4 arrested a man who 'took out an insurance policy pretending to be the young man who was killed'"He took out an insurance policy by pretending to be the young man who was killed. He then registered himself under his own name as the beneficiary. He used the deceased's friend's personal details to open the account where the insurance company would debit the monthly premium, kept the bank card and made sure that he deposited the premium amount every month to that account, before the killing.
He corresponded directly with the insurance company by telephone, to avoid detection".
On July 4, Boksburg police said that 'investigators learned that the accused, who is not related to the deceased, obtained the details of the victim from the deceased's friend - who was with him on the day of the killing.
The May 16 2011 murder in Boksburg of Andries Putter, 20, whose throat was cut allegedly by 4 blacks in an ANC-stickered 2cab vehicle after a political argument', állegedly was committed by people who had insured the young victim, murdered him, and then tried to collect R1million insurance money. "Police said 'the man carried out the conspiracy by planning with the friend of the deceased, to whom he promised money to if he would agree to be part of the insurance fraud.On Monday July 4 2011 the investigation by constable Meshack Masoma had taken a very strange turn. Said Const Cebisa Maseko of the Boksburg SAPS that their arrest followed weeks of investigation by the detective division, after the deeply mysterious death of the man.
The friend allegedly got the deceased to go with him to the open veld, where the hired killers were waiting. It seems that the unsuspecting victim agreed and, when they were in the open veld, the killers confronted them and killed the young man.
At the time the friend alleged it was a politically motivated killing, which was proven to be a lie, and the friend was initially arrested for perjury.
He lied to the police, saying the attackers drove a double cab 4x4 and argued with them regarding the local elections."The Boksburg police congratulated Masoma for his efforts. "Police are still investigating if the accused has been involved in other matters of fraud."
