Tonie Swanepoel, 59, engineer, stabbed to death in farm attack, Ritchie, North Cape SEPT 9 2011: - http://www.farmitracker.com/reports/view/1766
2011-09-09 Volksblad journalist Charné Kemp: RITCHIE, North Cape
Mr Tonie Swanepoel, 59, a retired resident of Ritchie in the North cape, was found murdered inside his freezer after a tip-off to the Modderrivier- police.
The tip-off was received by phone at 3am and police immediately went to Mr Swanepoel's house.
They found the body stuffed in the freezer. Apparently his killers had thrown the frozen meat out of it - and after killing him had cooked and eaten his food. Swanepoel had stab wounds in the chest and back. Robbery did not seem to be the primary motive as his handgun was found discarded in the veld near his homestead. SAPS capt Tony Modise said three suspects were arrested in two local homes; the 18, 21 and 28 year old appear in Kimberley court Monday for a remand date. A cellphone and housekeys belonging to Mr Swanepoel were found in their possession. Swanepoel had lived on the smallholding on Eerste Laan for the past 12 years. He's a retired engineer and raised vegetables on his plot together with Mr Chrisjan Rossouw. Neighbours rescued his three traumatised dogs on Friday after the little animals were reportedly thrown with rocks.

Roz van der Vyver: gangraped, beaten, in ICU with brain-damage after responding to Gumtree job-ad: Online job hunt ends in horror -September 7 2011 journalist Tanya Farber reports that Cape Town resident Roz van der Vijver, 38, is fighting for her life in hospital after being gang-raped.
A close friend and colleague said the Claremont woman, had responded to the advert by phone. She was told that transport had been arranged to ferry the stocktakers from a meeting point to the Pick n Pay store in Observatory, where they would work the night shift.
The friend told the Cape Times: “She was unemployed, but she phoned me to say she had at least found casual work to do some stocktaking. She was told to be there by 8.30pm, but the earlier she arrived the better.” She arrived at 7pm on a Sunday. She joined a group of other passengers, who she assumed were job seekers, on a minibus that drove to the Observatory store.
“She got off the bus,” the friend said, “but was told to get back on as it was so cold. “One of the men said he would check if there were still places for more stocktakers, but later returned and said the positions were all taken and that those on the bus could have complimentary tea, coffee and juice for their efforts.”
The woman told her friend she drank some of the juice and began to feel very sick. The last thing she remembered was being hit over the head, but she could not recall any other details.
In the early hours of the following morning, she woke up on a stretch of grass in Table View with all her belongings missing, apart from her cellphone. According to her friend, she then called a taxi driver friend who took her home.
Her neighbour told the Cape Times that he had been awoken by the sound of the woman trying to break down her front door at 3am. “She was in shock and I noticed that her pants were torn,” he said. “I then took her to the trauma section at Groote Schuur where she was examined by a doctor. She was then transferred to the gynaecology department and was given a course of anti-retroviral therapy.”
She told her neighbour later that semen from four men had been found in her body, and another friend was then called to take care of her.The second friend told the Cape Times that the woman remembered nothing after she was hit over the head.
“From what we have been able to piece together, it sounds like she was out cold for approximately five hours.”The following day, while in the care of her friend, she had a seizure and was taken back to hospital. After another bad seizure she was taken to ICU at Karl Bremer Hospital in Bellville. The friend said: “A catscan was done to see if there was any internal injury from the blow to the head, and it was negative, but there was suspicion that a blood clot could have affected her on her first day of standing up after the attack.”
Karl Bremer Hospital confirmed that the woman had been in their care, but had since been moved to ICU at Tygerberg Hospital for an MRI.Tygerberg Hospital confirmed that she had been admitted there on Monday.
The friend, who visited the woman at Tygerberg this week, said: “There doesn’t seem to be brain damage, but she is confused and they are monitoring her. Her only living relative is her mom, who lives in the Eastern Cape, so I am the closest thing she has to family in Cape Town.”
Pick n Pay, meanwhile, "has distanced itself from the online posting" - cautioning other job seekers against being lured by false adverts. The retail giant’s marketing From Page 1 and sustainability director, Bronwen Rohland, said: “Pick n Pay does not advertise any positions on Gumtree and views false advertising of employment positions within the company very seriously.
“We strongly urge individuals to be cautious and check the credentials of companies advertising employment opportunities.” She said the Observatory Pick n Pay did have a stock-take on August 22 (the morning after the attack), but that “the store and the staff complement was booked one month in advance of this stocktake procedure”.
She said Pick n Pay would value any additional information about the advertisement in question. This week there was no sign of the advert on Gumtree, and queries to the online advertising site had not been answered by the time of going to press.
According to Gumtree’s policy, a condition of use of the site is that the user agrees not to violate any laws, or be false or misleading in their adverts. The site states, however, that it cannot be held liable for the actions of any users who do violate those conditions. It says the Gumtree team “works with local and international law enforcement agencies to help keep the site free from scams and other illegal activities”.
To this end, it offers a service whereby a law enforcement inquiry can be lodged and the site, “in accordance with (their) privacy policy and data protection legislation, will provide evidence to law enforcement and give evidence in court where necessary”. Such a request, however, has to come from the police or another law enforcement agency, and it is not clear at this point whether the woman reported the alleged gang rape or not.
Her neighbour said she had sent him an SMS after he helped her, saying she would report the crime at the Claremont police station. However, personnel at the station as well as those at the Woodstock police station, situated closest to the alleged crime scene, say they have no record of a report of that nature. - Cape Times

Greyling family and Mr Nico Hattingh attacked by 5-member black gang who were looking to kill a specific 'Chinese man' in Pretoria North security complex.
Sept 9 2011 - Hilda Fourie, journalist at Beeld newspaper, writes that a five-member armed gang of black males attacked the Sommerso-security complex in Sanddappel Street, Florauna, Pretoria North.
The Greyling family maid
Mr Greyling: "They told us they weren't there to kill us; they were there for the Chinaman. One of the Chinese residents also was attacked at the gate by a gunman two months ago.'
Mr Greyling rushed out, but immediately saw the armed gang and ran back inside: too late: the attackers grabbed him and Annie, forced them inside the house and tied them up.
Mrs Greyling, 52, was in her room at her usual morning-prayer. "I was on my knees, praying when a gunman tapped me on the shoulder with a firearm," she said.
SAPS capt Solly Marindi confirmed the attack, which occurred in broad daylight at 8:30am.
The attackers took Mrs Greyling's jewellery (and cellphone to stop them from raising the alarm), and then went to Unit 1 where 4 Chinese immigrants are living.
' A struggle broke out between the Chinese citizens and the attackers inside the flat: and one man named Gim Min Wa, 49, was shot dead. They took no money.' said Marindi.
Marindi said the four Chinese immigrants saw the attackers approaching and pushed closed the front door, with the attack-gang eventually getting inside.
On their way out the attack gang hijacked a car driven by Nico Hattingh of Graaff-Reinet and was visiting his sister Mrs Julie de Klerk and his mother Mrs Grietie Hattingh, 78 in Unit 5.
The attackers fled in the Ford Bantam and VW Golf in which they had arrived. Nobody was arrested.
Mr Hattingh was just driving into the complex to pick up his mom for breakfast in a borrowed Mercedes-Benz C200. The merc was recovered through its tracking system.

Graskop circuit court, Limpopo. The murder-trial started this month of four of the 9-member gang which allegedly murdered hoteliers Hetta and Leon Steyn on Oct 29 2009 at the popular Lowveld tourist attraction Artists' CafĂ©, Hendriksdal railway station. During the first three days of testimony, forensic experts revealed that Mrs Hetta Steyn had been in a ‘kneeling position’ when she was killed at close range by a burst from an R4-military assault carbine. Mr Steyn was killed with an 9mm police-issue handgun. And very little of value was actually robbed – if indeed the robbery had been the motive of this huge militia-style attack gang. http://www.farmitracker.com/reports/view/1743

A charge of anti-white-racism was lodged against Adv Menzi Simelane by Frans Cronje of the SA Institute for Race Relations against the SA Human Rights Commission for his Sunday Times of Johannesburg remarks on 4 September 2011. Simelane claimed that only whites carried out 'racist crimes in whcih racism continues to be an important factor' and that 'racism was behind many crimes'. He said 'the majority of criminals are whites'. Cronje said he 'was not aware that any race-related crime-statistics were being maintained in South Africa. It is not possible for Advocate Simelane to make such claims. Simelane's statement are not based on facts, yet many people will summise that Simelane 's claims are factual. Such public statements can incite racial hatred in South Africa. ' or his SunTimes remarks on 4 Sept: Smelane claimed that 'only whites carried out crimes in which racism continues to be an important factor' and that 'racism was behind many crimes'; also that 'the courts was full of them (whites charged with racist crimes). “The majority of criminals are whites', according to Simelane. Cronje said he 'was not aware that any race-related crime-statistics were being maintained in South Africa at all. SAPS.gov.za ‘s crime statistics are not recorded in racial categories. It is therefore not possible for Advocate Simelane to make such claims. Simelane's statement are not based on facts, yet many people will summise that Simelane 's claims are factual. Orgy of murder and rape by 10,000 black revellers at Pretoria holiday retreat: 5 killed, 9 raped
The Eyewitness News service for Radio 702 in Gauteng published exclusive pictures of an orgy of violence and rape in Derdepoort recreation centre were ‘at least’ 5 people were slaughtered, nine women were raped. However the blame does not lay with the party-goers noted EWN: instead the police, the ambulance service were blamed for ‘slow responses’. (Let’s face it: who wouldn’t be terrified of having to go into such a violent melee unarmed, with sirens screaming, but NOT enough police-protection? ) EWN noted that ‘police resources’ were sent to guard a party in Mamelodi attended by the Pretoria mayor… Does anyone still wonder why AIDS remains so rampant in South Africa ?
