Dutchman Jorrit de Vries suffers serious eye injury: stone thrown from passing commuter train Cape Town

March 28 2012 - A young man from the Netherlands who works at Cape Town International Airport for a foreign Airplane company and who lives in SA with his Afrikaans girlfriend suffered a very serious eye-injury after a stone was thrown at him from from a passing train through the window and hit Jorrit de Vries (26) against his right eye. His eye is completely burst. The young man was on his way home from his work. The Main Article can be read here.
An eyewitness, Roger de Coito reportedly witnessed the incident and helped De Vries. He said a rock was thrown from another train through an open window and De Vries was hit in the face. To make it worse Mr de Vries had no medical aid in SA and when seeking emergency treatment at three government hospitals, the first one refused to help him seeing that he did not have the R2500 deposit on him.
These incidents are not isolated. Blacks also often throw rocks down from overhead bridges onto moving cars on highways with fatal consequences. White tourists and immigrants are also frequently attacked by blacks in SA: incidents on http://www.farmitracker.com.
A few years ago 40 Dutch tourists were robbed in CT after leaving a restaurant in a township. They were not the only ones. Separately German and British tourists were also robbed.

Witness Roger de Coito statement:
On Wednesday evening on the 3217 train to Strand, a stone was thrown, from a train coming past from the front, into the train, hitting a passenger on the eye. This happened at about 18h20 just before Koeberg Rd station. We stopped at Koeberg Rd and told the Guard who said he would make a call. When we stopped at Maitland station the injured person was asked to get off the train where "Security" would meet him and take him to hospital. I joined him as he was alone and also a Hollander(Netherlands) who works here in the city. At Maitland station we waited and when nobody even approached us I went to ask at the security office where they told me to go to Metrorail operations room. Got there and nobody knew anything. We waited after telling them to call an ambulance and the ambulance arrived after 19h30. They took us to Vincent Pallotti Hospital where they refused to give this guy any treatment as we did not have R2500 on us. I had my sister come pick us up there and we went to Hottentots Holland Hospital in Somerset West.This guy is still in hospital as I write this. I don't know how serious that eye is but I believe he has to go to Christiaan Barnard Hospital for an operation. Roger De Coito
